But if I keep ("LL" "ಳ್ಳ್") in the consonant section of kn-itrans.mim and
put ("LLL" "ಳ್ಳ್") into the independent section, like this:

diff --git a/MIM/kn-itrans.mim b/MIM/kn-itrans.mim
index d3c7480..42d7a08 100644
--- a/MIM/kn-itrans.mim

; Do not use LLi as an independent vowel. The reason is that kaLLi and aLLi
should intuitively yield ಕಳ್ಳಿ and ಅಳ್ಳಿ ,
; while kLLipti should yield ಕೢಪ್ತಿ (since ಳ್ಳ್ after a consonant is very
unusual).
   ; ("LLi" "ಌ")

then it seems to work as desired:

Typing "aLL " yields ಅಳ್ಳ್
Typing "aLLi " yields ಅಳ್ಳಿ
Typing "aLLL " yields ಅಳ್ಳ್
Typing "aLLLi " yields ಅಳ್ಳ್ಇ

That is what we want, isn’t it?
