I'm not sure people would mind so much, since it's a given fact this
will also happen pretty much any discussion forum. First there's one
page, then 10, then 50. Same with Google results, same with I think
Wikipedia category pages.

Is there a better way? I don't know. I don't believe it's likely to
confuse anyone. Besides which you don't have to be a computer whizz to
pick out the range your letter of interest falls in. People have been
doing binary searches through their dictionary to find the correct
page since age 5 onwards, for example.
