   - what is the sequence (if any) of this project's releases?

I'm not sure what you mean by this.

   - is its 'historic' list of versions available somewhere?

We have versions 7.3 and up available here:

        ftp://swiss.csail.mit.edu/pub/mit-scheme/

There are some older versions, back to 6 or so, on disk here but not
on the net.  I don't think we have anything before that, except on
paper.
