Why? Downloading _from_ 1.x clients is not too bad, because of they get
now download but just upload, they will switch faster. This may sound
greedy, but why not "rip" the bytes out of the 1.x users to "convince"
them to switch to the friendlier client?

Hmm. Then the new signature should get official ASAP, the 2.0+2 sources
need to be pulled, so new users only use the new-new 2.x client.

How about increasing the version to 2.5 or even 3.0?
