I know that, I've been running it just fine on Debian for the past year,

I meant, of course, is anyone going to package it for Debian? I seem to
recall somebody talking about it on this list earlier, but I don't think
any conclusion was reached.

I was thinking more like Debian Unstable, I'm not expecting to see Sarge
go stable in my lifetime. ;)
