ChangeLog: 

* paths.cc (any_path::dirname, system_path::dirname): Fix handling of
direct children of the root directory.
(paths:basename, paths:dirname unit tests): Test any_path and/or
system_path as well.
* tests/diffing_a_file_with_revision_outside_a_workspace
* tests/logging_a_file_with_revision_outside_a_workspace:
Also test in a directory divorced from all workspaces, with and without a
--root option.

* tester.cc (do_mkdtemp): New function.
(make_temp_dir): New Lua extension.
* configure.ac: Check for mkdtemp.
