ChangeLog: 

* Let split_by_path work on the complete path, instead of portions of
  it. Gives a simpler interface.
* Add temporary paths to feed to split_by_path. Additionally, those
  paths are now trimmed down, they now begin at the first branch_start
  blob. Dependencies on anything before don't matter, as those may
  well be in the same branch.
