ChangeLog: 

* Instead of a loop, we now recursively call check_for_cross_path(). In
  case we find a cross path, we don't just resolve one of the two
  parallel paths, but handle the upper one first and then the lower one,
  recursively calling into check_for_cross_path(), which now allows
  resolving nested cross paths (does that make sense to anybody at all?)
