ChangeLog: 

 * dates.{cc,hh}: move the validity checking into dates.cc, do all
   validity checking via that function. Make 0 a valid date and use
   -1 as an invalid date. Revert the changes to unit tests to prevent
   1970-01-01T00:00:00, because that's now a valid date again.
