I'm still not sure why the above fails...

but this one is just me beeing stupid!

I didn't notice the
  `configure: warning: /usr/local/lib: invalid host type'
in the output.

Compiling with no argument to --with-stlport-lib seems to work better than
with the one I use above for whatever reason.
