It's definitely a 2.95.4 compiler bug. If you compile the nel
library with -g, when running it consistently says:
snowballs: relocation error: /usr/lib/libnel3d.so.0: symbol
__ami__Q26NLMISC7CVectorRCQ26NLMISC7CVector, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in
file libc.so.6 with link time reference
If you compile nel with -g -O, everything being otherwise
equal, it works like a charm. At some point in the past I removed the
-O flag because it was causing a minor annoyance to someone when
debugging. I apologize for re-installing this annoyance and I hope people will
understand why it's done. I've inserted comments in the acinclude.m4 file
so that the rationale of this "-g -O" combination is not lost.
I reckon this problem does not occur on gcc-3.2 and is (for me) the
first hint that one should consider migrating to gcc-3.2.
Cheers,
