I put the following into nsswitch.conf:

group: compat

passwd: files mysql

shadow: compat

as you said, but i can't su, id, getent or something similar.

I tried all possibilities with mysql-passwd enabled, no one

works (neither su nor id/getent).

I'm using:

kernel 2.4.22

nss-mysql 0.43

mysql 4.0.13-r3

glibc 2.3.2-r1

What versions do you use?

Addition: I have now downgraded back to nss-mysql 0.40,

with 0.40 id and getent work again, but su freezes as usual :-(.

Tried all options of compat/file nss-mysql and

passwd/shadow/group, su works with none of them.

But in contrast to 0.43, with 0.40 I get logs of mysql-queries in

the mysql.log file when running su.

Has anyone who knows how mysql-nss works looked in the

glibc-ChangeLog? From 2.3.1 to 2.3.2 were many nss-relatet

updates as I saw, and it really seems to be a glibc-dependent

problem.

BTW: Does anyone know if it is possible to safely downgrade

from 2.3.2 to 2.3.1?

It is not a gentoo issue. I have the same problems on debian

(sid).
