Follow-up Comment #2, bug #30478 (project octave): I'm pretty sure it's a real bug (I definitely saw it a few releases back), but I'll ask people to submit a full backtrace here. It may be that kubuntu uses different versions of libraries to compile against which is why you don't see it there.
