Follow-up Comment #17, bug #38305 (project octave): "But why does it only affect Octave's file dialog?" The file dialog is probably the only part of Octave that relies on Samba access. My guess is that Samba masks or blocks the mechanism that notifies QProcess of a completed task. "As far as I understand only KDE is affected?" This I don't know. If it is purely a Windows environment, there shouldn't be a problem, because QProcess wouldn't be using the linux notification mechanism.
