Follow-up Comment #3, bug #39065 (project octave): "fixed" - a package with your suggested fix. You've done so, good & thanks. The code in preinstall.m searching for jvm.cfg is meant to be reached only on Windows systems - actually its sole use is to check that JAVA_HOME was set correctly. That piece of code shouldn't be reached on Linux. Did you check that? (I'm sorry I'm running out of time for Octave in the next 2-3 weeks so I'm not gonna do much about this now) If -as you say- the libjvm.so (jvm.dll) location is already fixed in the development sources of Octave I expect little enthusiasm for a new Java pkg release. If you insist on an updated OF Java package you'd have to deal with the maintainer (Michael Goffioul).
