Follow-up Comment #1, bug #42010 (project octave):
Non functional arrows under os x is already reported (bug #41337) but, to my
knowledge, the issue with "k" key is not.
I can't confirm the latter on os x 10.9.2 with French azerty keyboard.
If you want to test other keyboard layouts, go to mac os x "system
preferences>keyboard" and choose another one in the list.
