Details:

When running the GUI, the FLTK plots run in a different thread than the GUI.
This is not permitted for Mac OS X and results in a crash.

When the GUI is running, the FLTK toolkit should be disabled for Mac OS X.

This bug is related to #42596 and #40242, but they are different (meaning they
can be fixed independently)
