Follow-up Comment #20, bug #44485 (project octave): On Windows I also tried octave-gui from a cmd window and an MSYS terminal (rather than from a shortcut in the Star Menu or desktop). In both cases I saw no error messages at all when Octave disappeared from the screen. It is on a quite fast PC (recent core i5 & SSD) so perhaps I indeed missed flashing error messages, who knows. IMO a backtrace isn't very useful. After all the user knowingly does a Forced exit, isn't it? - her/his primary aim is to get out of Octave ASAP. It's an excessively long backtrace as well (on Linux).
