Follow-up Comment #4, bug #45833 (project octave):

Those functions already exist in the octave_base_value class.  They currently
call gripe_wrong_type_arg.  That function already accepts an optional argument
(default value = true) to say whether to issue an error or warning.  So this
behavior should be fairly trivial to change.
