Follow-up Comment #4, bug #57103 (project octave):

Gentoo, Octave 5.1.0. It is not a version specific, it's how Octave currently
written.

Note, I am not speaking about strings, I know they allow this, obviously. I
meant the variables and function names. I know that's currently impossible,
thus this feature request. It's 2019 year and more software allows to deal
with the Unicode mathematical symbols.
