I guess: Two independent problems.

I have merged Rik's patch to a somewhat older stable version i had on hand.
The problem forced in test_patch.m seems to be solved. I can not create the
segfault with Rik's patch applied.

But i also still get a segfault when loading big stl data.
LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 does not show any difference.

I am coming back as soon as a new build with -g has been finished.
