Follow-up Comment #4, bug #57370 (project octave):

hmmm ... if I copy over /usr from an older version to the new install, things
appear to work

and if I diff the bin files from the old vs new, they are different, which I
wouldnt have thought they would be, since they should the same file, but they
do get stripped - and strip comes from the binutils, so I wonder if there is
something in that?
