Bernhard, that is nice to hear that you could solve your issue using Flatpak.
The situation is not fully clear to me, as Ubuntu 18.04 ships Octave 4.2.2 by
default https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/octave maybe you ran Octave 5.2.0
using a snap package https://snapcraft.io/octave without knowing about your
luck? 🤔
If someone wants to investigate this further, please reopen this report.
