Follow-up Comment #2:

This works for me.  Could you list the exact steps you took?

I did this:

1) In Editor Window, File->New Function and enter "myfcn.m"
2) In Editor Window, File->Close
3) In File Browser Window, Right-Click on "myfcn.m" and choose Delete
4) In Editor Window, File->Recent Editor Files->myfcn.m

At this point there is no segfault, and Octave says the file doesn't exist and
asks if it should be created.

Another question, when you say "GUI suddenly turns off" do you mean it
disappears or does it just not respond to input?
