Follow-up Comment #22, bug #63803 (project octave): Just a generic note about the C++17 filesystem library: Even if we required C++17, current implementations are lacking in some regards (e.g., [1] or [2], or the list in [3] for the libstdc++ implementation). So, imho, we shouldn't use it (yet).
