Follow-up Comment #4, bug #39004 (project octave):

update: in version 8.2.0, both behaviors still exist in the GUI.  v8 now
includes the --experimental-terminal-widget, however, and both selection
behaviors work as desired there.  so this may just be a matter of waiting for
that new terminal widget to become the default.
