Follow-up Comment #3:

Thanks @mmuetzel. Closing as Won't Fix since the expected direction is to
remove ranges entirely for simpler code. Space-saving was worth it in the past
when storage was limited, but at this point the benefits of simpler code to
maintain outweigh the space saved.
