Subject: [Octave-bug-tracker] [bug #64977] Explore options for the bytecode interpreter in Octave 9
Date: Thu, 7 Dec 2023 02:55:31 -0500 (EST)

Follow-up Comment #5, bug #64977 (project octave):

I pushed a series of changes to move the bytecode interpreter to a separate
feature branch (named bytecode-interpreter).

We can still discuss whether it is better to have a separate feature branch
and maybe after that discussion we'll abandon it. Eliminating it would be as
simple as merging the new branch back to default and closing it.

However, since I had already done the work to remove the bytecode interpreter
from the stable branch it seemed to me that it would be easier to move it to a
separate branch at the same time before any further changes were made to it on
the default branch.

Having a separate branch makes it very easy to see the complete set of changes
that make up the bytecode interpreter by doing

hg diff -r default -r bytecode-interpreter

immediately after a merge of default to the bytecode-interpreter branch.

So from now until we decide to merge the bytecode interpreter with default,
please make all changes related to the bytecode interpreter on the
bytecode-interpreter branch and merge default to that branch often to stay
current with changes made on default.
