Follow-up Comment #22, bug#65277 (group octave):

Bizarre. For me in the experimental widget it runs as well as in CLI. 
Do you get Glib-GIO-Critical warnings? 
I have noticed that the deluge of those warnings go to "normal" command window
but stay in the xterminal where I started the octave when I use the
experimental widget. I thought that there is may be some kind of contention
between octave thread and Glib process writing to the same place and that is
causing the hangup. 

As I mentioned elsewhere, the command windows freezes first (stops updating)
while octave continues through some more tests
until it finally hangs up (judging by the output in fntests.log).

This is with either 8.4.0 (provided by repo, compiled with Qt5) or with 9.0.91
(compiled with either Qt5 or Qt6).
