@Nik: Your patch from comment #71 looks good to me. 👍

We should probably also add a note to the NEWS file that there are better
tests whether input for the "cdata" and "facevertexcdata" properties of patch
objects are valid. There might be more cases where invalid input "happened to
work" before those better tests were added.
