Follow-up Comment #9, bug #65442 (group octave):

With patch, it seems that the second invocation is picking the wrong line
object for label 'a'.  It seems to be picking one of the gray line objects
making up the polar axes.  Later, setting the "RhoTicks" property causes the
line segment to go blank.
