Status: Ready For Test => Fixed

Follow-up Comment #4:
I verified that edit() now works correctly again. I also used grep to verify
there are no other instances of calling system with a non-logical second
argument. There may still be code in packages that gets this wrong, but this
will be discovered in time.
Marking bug as Fixed and closing report.
