Okay, thanks for the pointers.  I'll try one of them.

Regarding my comments, I assumed if the fault was in gnulib, then I could
rebuild and install it separately.  I've had to rebuild bits and pieces of
packages where something wasn't working (and source code was available), but
it's been a while, and it was under Linux, not Windows.
