In tinkering with the imshow() command and some gnuplot stuff, I see that the current imshow *does* support color images, sort of. It creates a colormap, or indexed, image with a huge palette. (Rather inefficient.) However, something still isn't exactly correct because I see a white strip half way along the bottom row of pixels. Not worth worrying about, as color components is a better approach.
