My explanation on this issue was inadequate.

>From gnuplot 4.2, a lot of new syntax has been incorprated.
As a result it seems to take more time to interpret the command and caused
pipe line problem.

It was in March 2007.
There have been some other problems occurred on the gnuplot 4.2.0.
The gnuplot teams have been worked on extesively and released the version 4.2.2 
on Sep. 1.
The version 4.2.2 is now offical verion of gnuplot 4.2.

So that it is very very strongly recommended to version up your gnuplot to 
version 4.2.2, if you are
still using the gnuplot 4.2.0.
I hope everbody does not waste time on this matter anymore.
