Video functions (was: Q: Low hanging fruit?)

I can work on the video related functions: addframe, avifile, aviinfo,
aviread, frame2im, getframe, im2frame, mmfileinfo, mmreader, movie,
movie2avi, read. (Not sure what to do with frameedit.)
Is anyone already working on these?
I am looking at using gstreamer for reading/writing media-- it's
portable (windows mac linux +), supports many codecs, is well
supported, etc. Comments?
