The whole approach looks prone to a race condition.
I think what "rehash" did was just an introduction of
a delay that alleviated the problem, but has not
solved it. The better approach would be to make
"drawnow" to block and not to return until the
output file is written.
We had s similar problem with gnuplot printing
few years ago....
