Why, what is the problem? I think most Unix shells have the same
behavior as Octave, in which cd with no arguments changes to the home
directory.
Also, if you have a program that does
dir = cd;
Octave will return the current directory and not change it, so I think
this difference in behavior with Matlab should normally only affect
interactive use.
