I tried 
mkoctfile-3.5.91+ mgl_octave.cpp -o mathgl.oct -I../../include  -I../include 
-lmgl

mkoctfile-3.5.91+ mgl_octave.cpp -o mathgl.oct -I../../include  -I../include 
-Wl,-lmgl

mkoctfile-3.5.91+ mgl_octave.cpp -o mathgl.oct -I../../include  -I../include 
-Wl,-rpath -Wl,${HOME}/usr/lib -lmgl

All failed the same way.
