You seem to be learning quickly, well done!

I checked in two patches:

is mainly style fixes. 

2) http://sourceforge.net/p/octave/code/11954/
shows how to access array elements faster using the "fortran_vec ()" method

please apply the same fixes to your other functions.

I believe a blog post about how dolfin distinguishes parts of the boundary
and how this compares to the approach in the msh package would be in order.
