'make check' gives a few failing tests:

Summary:
   PASS 14045
   FAIL 18
   XFAIL 29
   SKIPPED 43

What does the fntests.log file tell you about the failures?

This looks like what happens for me when I run the tests on a system that doesn't have a valid X11 display available.
