Sorry, I was confused. What didn't work was deleting the file if
Octave was killed by a signal (which had to be -9 now), so it had
probably had nothing to do with the choice between 'exit' and
'clean_up_and_exit'.
Please forget it for now, I'll probably come back to it later.
