Follow-up Comment #1:
I made a few changes and then applied your patch in this changeset
(http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/ad8966096e27).
One thing, which I don't believe is mentioned yet in the Octave manual, is
that texinfo strings should use 2 spaces between the period ending a sentence
and the the capital letter beginning the next one. This makes no difference
in the TeX environment where the typesetter decides on the appropriate amount
of whitespace, but it does produce more readable text when using the text-only
Info viewer on a console.
