Follow-up Comment #4, patch #7990 (project octave): Or, better still, overload is_gui_running as follows: int is_gui_running (void); std::string is_gui_running (std::string); where the latter works as follows: std:string f = is_gui_running ("errordlg"); returns "qterrordlg" (or "gtkerrordlg") if the GUI is running, "" otherwise.
