Follow-up Comment #1, patch #8070 (project octave):

This second variation adds 4 space characters to the front of the description
and then adds a blank last column having a stretch factor of 10.  Because the
other columns have a default stretch of 0, the last blank column effectively
takes all remaining space so that the other columns are scrunched to the left.
 The 4 space characters gives nice spacing between columns.
