Follow-up Comment #1, patch #8963 (project octave):
I checked in a modified version of your script here:

I fixed the check targets to use it instead of just dumping the contents of
fntests.log to the screen.
Instead of eliminating all output from skipped or failed tests, the test code
and up to 32 lines of output are displayed. I'm not sure whether this is the
best choice, but I think some output should be displayed just as a
reminder/notice of what is failing or skipped.
