Follow-up Comment #10:

Revisit for Octave 6.

No real progress on this item for almost 7 years.  Patches do no longer apply
cleanly.  I think the pkg tool today is totally different to that of 7 years
ago.

Thus I do not expect much value from this patch anymore.
