Follow-up Comment #44, patch #9980 (project octave):
Markus (comment #38) merely meant to say that the reason mentioned in the
error error message ("invalid UTF-8" )in the try-catch block COULD be
incorrect.
He's absolutely right there and I agree. I also think regexprep is
sufficiently "grown-up" to emit a proper error message by itself, no try-catch
needed.
Yet I also wonder how bad it could be in practice and whether io-2.6.4 release
should wait for it to be adapted.
fromJSON and toJSON + the entire io-2.6.3 package have been released over a
year ago and we've seen no complaints yet.
I would be fine with leaving things as-is for the time being. After all, some
time after io-2.6.4 there'll be an io-2.6.5 or maybe 2.8.0 I suppose :-)
