Can anyone tell me if openexr files are linear or log files?
Linear.

What's in the Numbers?We store linear values in the RGB 16-bit floating-point numbers. By this we mean that each value is linear relative to the amount of light it represents.
Don't know about scanners that output OpenEXR, though - maybe Spirit2? HTH, Klaus
