Wow, yeah, that was it... there was JUST ONE little thing I missed when I 
cleaned up after the 1.4.9 source install I did previously: I didn't know 
there was anything in /usr/local/bin (which was the first entry in my 
$PATH...) and sure enuff, there was the old bevs... I deleted it, and it 
works! :)
